Last year I wrote a blog to honor my mother on International Women’s Day. To this day she has been the greatest inspiration in my life. Today, I want to honor women for who they are, what they do and how they can continue to be inspired to be more of who they are. I am encouraging women to aspire to realize their own full potential and manifest their unique blueprint with courage, determination and inner belief. Not striving just to perform, but striving to know that they can be who they are by being authentic to themselves.
Join me in celebrating the women in your life across generations
Men and women, join me in celebrating the women in your lives, regardless of their age, their role, their title, their income power, their ethnicity, their ambition and how they choose to lead their life.
Acknowledge the women in your life
At the start of each day, take the time to acknowledge the women who have made an impact in your life, have loved you, cared for you, inspired you and supported you. Commit to not taking them for granted.
Congratulate and applaud the women in your life
As you navigate through your day, take a few minutes to email, text, send a message via Facebook or call to applaud, support and encourage a woman you know. Reflect, and ask yourself how to best acknowledge the women in your life on a regular basis.
Recognize the women in your life
Raise the visibility of the women who have been in the shadows, humbly fulfilling their duties at the office without being “seen.” Be forthcoming with a bonus that is overdue, a pay raise that is well deserved, a promotion that you might have resisted. Stand up for any woman who has merit.
Offer to help the women in your life
Yes, offer your help and go the extra mile for women who could lead when trusted in the positions where they belong. Ask your friend, your life partner, your sister, your mother, your daughter, your niece, your granddaughter and/or your grandmother how you may help her realize her aspirations.
Open doors and create new pathways for women in your life
I am an advocate for diversity of skills, talent and experience. Many of our organizations, our teams and our boards are in need of change and can further excel by consciously having women in leadership roles. Many women are great thinkers, superb decision makers and outstanding leaders. I invite you to stand up and support women by helping them on their leadership journey. Help women raise their visibility in their careers, facilitate introductions, open your network so that you are a catalyst to help them achieve their full potential.
Thank the women in your life
Thank the women around you. Thank your mother, your partner, your daughter, your sister, your friend, your leader, your doctor, your dentist, your housekeeper, your gardener…don’t overlook what each one does in her own way to be who she is.
Women: don’t try to be anything else but the best expression of your unique self!
